Social Media Is Here To Stay

I’d like to kick off my inaugural post with a video that nearly shattered my universe. The short feature by YouTube member SocialNomics09 provides some mind bottling statistics surrounding social media and its global reach. Nearly every human on the planet is touched in some form or another by social sites, and we’re growing increasingly dependent on it for news, entertainment, networking, and everything in between. Take a look below to see what I mean:

Now here’s the really crazy part: most small business owners aren’t using social media to reach their customers. If you’re one of them, please scroll up about 2 inches and watch that video again. This is by far the easiest and most cost effective way to reach more customers than you could realistically service in a day. Don Draper would literally shit his pants if he had access to Facebook, let alone the 500 other social media sites springing up daily.

Don’t freak out. Its still not too late to get started. In fact, its the perfect time. Right now. Go create a Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn account and just start playing around. This is your first step on a long journey to success, and with a little bit of elbow grease and a lot of persistence, you’ll be reaping the benefits of social media for a long time. And if you still think social media is a fad…scroll up and watch this video again.

  1. Interviewed recently for a “Social Media Coordinator” position. I was told that Ford recently hired for their social media coordinator, and that soon big companies like that plan to have Vice President’s of Social Media. Definitely here to stay! Looking forward to more posts.
